2 Negros LGUs get P2.4-M fund for women digital skills training

BACOLOD CITY: The Negros Occidental provincial government has provided a PHP2.4 million counterpart fund for the digital skills training and employment package for women in two local government units here.

The recipients are San Carlos City and Calatrava town, which got PHP1.2 million each to support the training of 100 women beneficiaries.

The training program will be through the Elevate Artificial Elevate Intelligence Data Annotation (AIDA) of the Aboitiz Foundation and Connected Women, in collaboration with the provincial government and San Carlos Sun Power Inc. via a memorandum of agreement signed during the launch on Tuesday at the San Carlos City Auditorium.

In a statement on Wednesday, San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo commended the Aboitiz Foundation and its partners for giving underprivileged women the opportunity to work.

‘AIDA is not just a project but a transformative force that empowers individuals and enhances the city’s workforce,’ he said.

The Elevate AIDA, through its tailored programs and
resources, ‘equips women with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital age, fostering gender equality and unlocking new pathways for personal and professional growth.’

Vulnerable women in various sectors, including stay-at-home mothers, solo parents, and displaced workers, are given the skills they need to become remote data annotators.

Aboitiz Foundation chief operating officer Mardi Mapa-Suplido said the women will undergo a 15-day online comprehensive training on structured courses, including data annotation and digital skills, with a daily training allowance provided during the training period.

The training will be held from Aug. 1 to 21, excluding weekends, with sessions running for three to four hours a day.

‘This partnership will significantly advance our mission to empower women and mothers and provide them jobs in this digital age,’ the Aboitiz Foundation said in a statement.

It said the training offers a flexible work schedule that allows the beneficiaries to balance their respon
sibilities at home while earning a steady income, and they can become financially independent and contribute to the global digital economy with this in-demand skill.

‘With the support from the local government, Aboitiz Foundation, and Connected Women can further empower and amplify the impact of the Elevate AIDA program in bridging the gender gap in technology,’ it added.
