Cambodia’s Rubber Export Bags US$90 Million in First Quarter

Cambodia exported 65,921 tonnes of dry rubber in the first quarter of 2023, earning US$90 million, said a report of the General Directorate of Rubber on Thursday.

The January-March rubber export increased by 6.8 percent from 61,739 tonnes in the same period last year, it pointed out.

The revenue from export saw a year-on-year decline by 9.5 percent, the same source added.

The report stated that the average rubber price was US$1,351 per tonne, a decrease of 15 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.

The Kingdom exports the commodity mainly to Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and China.

According to the report, Cambodia has so far planted rubber trees on a total land area of 404,578 hectares, of which 315,332 hectares, or 78 percent, are old enough to be tapped.

In 2022, Cambodia earned more than US$531 million from the export of rubber and rubber wood. Of that, the income from rubber export was US$527 million and that from rubber wood export was US$4 million.
