BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Brunei’s overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Feb, 2022, increased by 3.2 percent year-on-year, a 146-month record high, since Jan, 2010, when historical data became available.

According to the latest statistical figures, released yesterday, by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the CPI rise was in line with the increase in non-food and food, and soft beverage prices by 3.3 and 2.6 percent, respectively.

The data showed that the increase in the non-food component was driven by miscellaneous goods and services (14.0 percent) and clothing and footwear (10.4 percent).

While the hike in food and non-alcoholic beverages was due to the rise in food prices, such as, cooking oil (17.3 percent) and meat (7.1 percent). Among others, the growth in food prices was due to higher import prices.

CPI is a measure of price changes of goods and services paid by the consumer, in a specified period. Brunei’s list of goods and services in the CPI is based on the average expenditure per household.
