Cambodia Interested in UPOV’s Membership

Cambodia is interested in becoming a member of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), which can help the country protect its new seeding varieties of plants by registering it with the union.

H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, highlighted the intention during a meeting with Ms. Yolanda Huerta Casado, Vice-Secretary General of UPOV in Phnom Penh early this week.

As a member of UPOV, Cambodia can also increase the confidence of investors as well as seed research and techniques in the sector.

The country can also obtain new knowledge and experience from seeding researchers across the world through UPOV.

UPOV, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, was established to support and promote the research and development of crop varieties to serve social interests.
