DILG to launch Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas program on Jan. 6

Pangasinan: Local government units (LGUs) are enjoined in the bid for clean and peaceful communities in line with the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas program.

‘We encourage everyone to conduct regular clean-up drives, from the local government unit heads down to the barangays and all the citizens, as part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas campaign,’ DILG-Ilocos Region director Jonathan Paul Leusen Jr. said in a phone interview on Friday.

The program is in line with the DILG Memorandum Circular No. 001-2024 that aims to raise public awareness and participation in environmental responsibilities through proper waste management, to encourage LGUs to invest in related programs and projects, and to set up a recognition system for the cleanest LGU.

The memorandum encourages newly-elected and appointed Barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) officials to conduct clean-up activities on Jan. 6.

The regional Kalinisan Day a
nd launching of the program will be held at Barangay Poro in San Fernando City, La Union.

Basista’s Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Vanessa Llego said the town’s 13 villages will participate in the launching and will highlight their solid waste management plan.

Clean-up sites will focus on streets, canals, other waterways, public markets, schools, and public parks, she said.

Llego said the villages, through their respective secretaries, are to record the number of participants, the number of sacks of garbage or waste collected.

‘The barangay captains were instructed to submit their reports to the Solid Waste Management Office,’ she added.
