Framework Agreement for Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway Project Signed

The Royal Government of Cambodia and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) have entered a Framework Agreement authorising a thorough feasibility study of Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway project.

The signing ceremony took place here at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) this afternoon between H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of MPWT, and representative of CRBC.

On the occasion, H.E. Sun Chanthol mentioned that the construction of the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway, Cambodia’ s 3rd expressway, would cost approximately US$4 billion and would be divided into two phases: 250-kilometre-long Phnom Penh-Siem Reap for the 1st phase and 150-kilometre-long Siem Reap-Poipet for the 2nd phase.

The Cambodian minister added that once the construction completed, the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway would provide huge benefits for transport and travelling cost as stated by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen at the groundbreaking ceremony of Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway in Kandal province this morning.

He further added that, with careful consideration to harm-free for local residents and ancient bridges in Siem Reap province, CRBC had assured to study the impact no longer than six months, before submitting their study result to the MPWT to reach an MOU, and the expressway would break ground next year.

Taking the opportunity, H.E. Sun Chanthol attributed the mega infrastructure development projects in Cambodia to the current full peace, political stability and security as well as strong confidence of Chinese investors in the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
