Government to Launch Second Round of Cash Subsidy for Vulnerable Households Pressured by Inflation Early Next Week

The second round of cash subsidy for vulnerable households during inflationary pressures will begin on Monday next week.

“As promised, the Royal Government will start providing the second round of cash subsidy for the targeted households from April 10, 2023 onwards,” said Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in a message AKP received this morning.

The vulnerable households identified will be entitled to three rounds of the cash subsidy – first on Dec. 10, 2022; second on April 10, 2023; and third on July 10, 2023 – through Wing agents across the country.

Each targeted household in Phnom Penh capital will receive 99,900 Riel (about 4,050 Riel equal to US$1) and another 28,000 Riel for one additional family member.

A targeted household in urban areas and rural areas will get 87,300 Riel and 81,300 Riel each respectively, and another 24,000 Riel and 20,000 Riel respectively for one additional family member.

“I would like to emphasise that the Royal Government has introduced various social protection interventions during the crisis in order to ease the livelihood of Cambodian households, especially the poor and vulnerable ones, which is in line with the Royal Government’s policy of ‘Leaving no one behind’,” Samdech Techo Prime Minister underlined. “This clearly demonstrates the Royal Government’s ownership and skillful leadership in developing a strong, resilient, equitable and inclusive Cambodian socio-economy. The Royal Government will continue to pay attention to the people’s well-being and launch various social protection interventions in a timely manner as necessary.”

The cash transfer programme for the poor and vulnerable households during COVID-19, which began in June 2020, continues until now, while the cash transfer scheme for vulnerable households affected by last year’s flood came to an end in March 2023 after a year of operation.
