New Chinese Ambassador Promotes Cambodia’s Tourism

H.E. Wang Wenbin, newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, is helping to promote Cambodian tourism to the world.

In his official Facebook page on July 16, H.E. Wang Wenbin wrote, ‘Cambodia, a perfect destination to explore ancient temples, vibrant culture and charming nature.’

On July 5, the new Chinese ambassador to Cambodia arrived in Phnom Penh to begin his diplomatic term in the Kingdom.

H.E. Wang Wenbin briefly addressed the press at Phnom Penh International Airport upon his arrival. He said to become the 18th Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia carries both honour and responsibility. China and Cambodia enjoy a deep bond of traditional friendship. President Xi Jinping once quoted a Cambodian proverb, trust grows like a tree. Late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk also compared the friendship to a flower that never wither. The brotherhood of the two countries is deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples, and the ironclad friendship sets an example for all others.

The new diplomat affi
rmed his readiness to work closely with all Cambodian friends to take over the baton and carry forward the proud tradition of China-Cambodia friendship. He will unswervingly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, make untiring efforts to strengthen the ironclad friendship, and push forward the China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era to deliver more tangibly for the people of both countries.

Cambodia attracted some 2.6 million international tourists in the first six months of 2024, an increase of 22 percent compared to the same period last year, of them 326,003 were Chinese.

H.E. Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism, has recently said that in 2024, China ranks third among countries with the largest number of tourists visiting Cambodia.

‘The growth of Chinese tourism is an important opportunity that not only promotes the development of Cambodian tourism, but also creates investment opportunities in various sectors,’ he underlined.

Tourism is one of the
four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy, in addition to garment, footwear and travel goods export, agriculture, and construction and real estate.

Four of Cambodia’s tourist destinations have been recently listed among the top 25 Asia’s best tourist attractions in the latest award by Tripadvisor.

Angkor Wat of Siem Reap took second place in the award, and Ta Prohm and Bayon Temples of the province made it to the 19th and 20th, respectively, while Phnom Penh’s Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum obtained 22nd place.

Besides ancient temples, the Kingdom has a 450-kilometre-long pristine coastline stretching across four southwestern provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep and Koh Kong.
