NO ONE WILL BE EXCLUDED FROM JOINING TVET COURSE – AHMAD ZAHID

PUTRAJAYA, No one will be excluded from joining the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes offered at 1,345 TVET institutions nationwide, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The National TVET Council (MTVET) chairman said that so far over 30,000 places for over 700 courses have been offered to eligible applicants.

“We are worried that if we go by the previous trend, over 100,000 (people) will apply. (But) I asked the (MTVET) secretariat to ensure no one is disappointed in terms of getting a place to study.

“Although the TVET system does not have an academic certificate equivalent to SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) or others, we will accept Malaysians entering any TVET institutions in this country,’ he said at the launch of the TVET Intake Unit (UPTVET) here today.

Ahmad Zahid, also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said that in a bid to empower the field of TVET in the country, the courses offered would also focus on high-level TVET courses
like in the field of artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and robotics.

The UPTVET acts as a single channel for TVET course admission applications across all ministries related to TVET.

The use of a single UPTVET channel that is flexible, taking into account the requirements of various entry conditions for the primary session intake and intake throughout the year is an initiative to open the widest possible space for Malaysians to participate in the TVET programme.

Ahmad Zahid said the UPTVET, developed by the Human Resources Ministry, has been used for the 2024 January primary intake, which began on October 2023, while applications for the July 2024 intake were opened on March 25 and will close on June 11.

He said one of the characteristics of the UPTVET is that the institution will offer courses to the candidates and they will have the opportunity to get more than just one offer. However, candidates can only choose to accept one offer.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Ahmad Zahid said he chair
ed the MTVET 2/2024 meeting where three proposal papers and one briefing note related to the TVET empowerment initiatives were discussed.

It involved discussions regarding the TVET Day celebration on June 7-8 at the Kuala Langat Industrial Training Institute in Selangor, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expected to launch the National TVET Policy 2030.

“I also studied the second tabling of the proposed empowerment of the WorldSkills Malaysia competition by the Department of Skills Development.

“I see this competition as a platform to unearth skilled talents among the people and it is also one of the promotional mediums that is effective to raise the society’s awareness towards the TVET field,’ he said.
