OOI FAILS TO GET LUCKY FOR UNUSED QUOTA TO COMPETE IN PARIS OLYMPICS

KUALA LUMPUR, Seasoned diver Ooi Tze Liang’s hopes of competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics were dashed after the national diving camp failed to secure an additional slot.

The disappointing development was informed by the technical director of the national diving squad Bryan Nickson Lomas, after confirmation from World Aquatics (formerly FINA; International Swimming Federation) about the slot.

‘We have not received any email from World Aquatics and they have already confirmed that there is no additional slot for Ooi Tze Liang.

‘So in the absence of Ooi Tze Liang, we only have two divers who will compete in Paris,’ he told Bernama.

Earlier, the country’s female diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri, successfully confirmed participation in the Paris Olympic Games through an excess quota that was unused by athletes from other countries.

Besides Dhabitah, also confirmed for the Paris Olympics is the country’s young diver Bertrand Rhodict Lises, who emerged as the country’s first athlete to qualify on merit for the 2024 O
lympic Games after placing 10th in the men’s 10-metres individual platform at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan last year.
