PARIS 2024: JOHNATHAN AIMS TO ENTER 10 METRE AIR PISTOL FINAL

SEPANG, National shooter Johnathan Wong Guanjie aims to make it to the 10 metre (m) air pistol final when he makes his second appearance at the Olympic Games in Paris that begins on Saturday.

He said he has to ensure each shot is on target and collect more than 579 points, a score that may help him qualify for the final.

“Personally, I aim to beat my season personal best of 579 recorded at the Denmark Shooting Open.

“We will see as I can determine (what will happen) and I will use whatever chance I have to get the best results and make it to the final and win a medal,’ he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here today.

The 31-year-old added that his final preparations were going well and he had conducted an analysis of other shooters who will be competing at the French National Shooting Centre in Chateauroux.

The qualifying round of the men’s 10m air pistol event will be on July 27, with the final held the next day.

Johnathan was one of the first Malaysian athletes who quali
fied on merit to the Paris Olympics after he placed fourth in the 10m air pistol at the World Shooting Championship in Chanhgwon, South Korea in October 2023.

His first Olympic appearance was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016, where he finished 28th in the 10m air pistol and 37th in the 50m air pistol.
