Spokesperson: Illegal Protest Threatening National Security Is Serious Crime

The plan to mobilise the people to illegally protest against the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA) is not an expression of opinion but an attempt to carry out a colour revolution, which is the most serious crime.

H.E. Chin Malin, Permanent Secretary of State and Spokesman for the Ministry of Justice, voiced the reminder on Aug. 15 following some emerging activities triggering the protest.

A small group of political extremists, most of whom reside overseas, carried out the activities justifying it with the groundless allegation that the Royal Government is losing the sovereignty of four northeastern provinces of Cambodia under the CLV-DTA deal, despite a series of explanations and the sharing of supporting documentation.

H.E. Chin Malin continued that any act to overthrow the Royal Government to seize power by any means other than elections in accordance with the principles of multi-party liberal democracy enshrined in the Constitution is a serious crime punishable under the charge
of “attack” by imprisonment for 15 to 30 years.

And if the perpetrator is a public servant, the penalty for this offence is life imprisonment.
