SUKMA 2024: Spectators Allowed Back Into Silat Venue Tomorrow

MIRI, Spectators will be allowed back into the Miri Stadium to watch the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) silat competition tomorrow.

SUKMA 2024 Silat Technical Delegation head Kamarul Ariffin A. Latib said the technical and safety committee met today and decided to lift the ban on spectators, which was imposed yesterday.

‘Considering the fact that supporters have travelled from afar, and with the situation now under control, the committee has decided to allow spectators to enter the venue to further enliven the atmosphere of SUKMA,’ he told a media conference here today.

He said the approval is conditional, that is spectators are not allowed to bring food or drinks into the stadium and must not stand behind the scoring screens.

‘Meanwhile, participants will be required to stay in designated areas to avoid mixing with the spectators,’ he said.

He added that the authorities would maintain strict control to ensure safety inside and outside the silat venue.

Earlier, it was decided that the silat competition wo
uld be held without spectators today and tomorrow after a water bottle was thrown into the ring during the 45kg Putri Class bout between Sarawak’s Iman Syakilla Mahdi and the Federal Territories’ Nurin Alyaa Damia Mohd Masran yesterday.

The incident is believed to have stemmed from dissatisfaction with the scoring system displayed on the screen, leading to frustration among the crowd.
