The Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA) meeting, hosted by the Lao National Assembly in Vientiane on the afternoon of Oct. 19, the third day of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45), discussed two draft resolutions to further enhance women’s rights.
H.E. Mrs. Lok Kheng, Chairwoman of the Commission on Health, Social Affairs, Veterans, Youth Rehabilitation, Labour, Vocational Training, and Women’s Affairs of the National Assembly of Cambodia, and H.E. Mrs. Chan Sotheavy, Chairwoman of the Commission on Legislation and Justice of the Senate of Cambodia, attended the WAIPA meeting.
Hon. Dr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly of Lao PDR and Chairman of AIPA-45, addressed the opening meeting.
According to the Cambodian National Assembly, the meeting discussed two draft resolutions: the draft resolution on fostering gender-responsive parliaments for a resilient, connected, and inclusive ASEAN community, sponsored by Lao PDR, and the draft resolut
ion on promoting the elimination of violence against women and girls in the ASEAN region, sponsored by Viet Nam.
